Meiss Lake Trail is located in the Toibe National Forest. Louis Meiss, who emigrated from Darmstadt, Germany in 1842. In 1878 he bought 1000 acres in Alpine County, CA. The Meiss family grazed catle on the property in the summer. In 1965 the USFS aquired the property for public use. The hiking trail starts at the top of Carson Pass and heads north in the direction of Lake Tahoe. The hike starts out with classic Sierra scenery, old trees and big boulders and climbs moderatly up to a high mountain meadow where the trail winds it's way thru beautiful wildflower meadows in the summer.
